AIP Conducts Hands-on Training on OLAT for SVPUA&T Faculty
June 28 – July 2, 2012

The Agricultural Innovation Partnership (AIP) aims to strengthen the educational system in Indian agricultural universities using innovative strategies. Towards this, AIP plans to implement the Online Learning and Training (OLAT), an Open Source LMS (Learning Management System) in many of the partner Indian Agricultural Universities. OLAT provides diverse functionality for all institutional needs in web-based learning and training. In the Indian universities, OLAT will ensure a richer teaching-learning experience for both teachers and students through blended learning. Classroom sessions using OLAT can produce effective results by decreasing costs and improving both student and teacher performances. Also, unlike a one-time classroom session, the e-learning courses can be used over and over again for teaching and learning. Learning could now be self-paced and easily managed.

Marking the beginning of its initiatives to sensitize faculty members on OLAT at partner institutions, AIP imparted training to about thirty faculty members at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology (SVPUA&T) from June 28 – July 2, 2012 at the SVPUA&T campus. Earlier this year, AIP facilitated the implementation and deployment of OLAT on the hardware target system at SVPUA&T.

The training program was coordinated by Mr. Deepak Sisodia and Mr. UP Shahi, faculty members, SVPUA&T. Trainers from Sathguru Management Consultants (Mr Anantha Murthy and Mr Ravinder), a private partner in the AIP project, trained the participants during the five-day program. The participants got to know how to effectively handle the software and ways of making optimal use of the LMS. Apart from providing hands-on training on the software, the participants were introduced to the different types and levels of users; ways of handling Home page setting; configuring and managing the software; creating courses; inserting course elements; managing and integrating SCORM, folders, Wiki, podcasts, blogs, forums, file dialogues, assessments, tasks, portfolios, questionnaires, enrolment, notifications, calendar, etc.
